Libya Tows Drifting Russian LNG Tanker into International Waters

(MENAFN) Libyan authorities announced on Wednesday that a Russian LNG tanker, which had been adrift off the country’s coast for an extended period, has been moved into international waters, with the National Oil Corporation assigned to oversee its unloading.

As stated by reports, the Government of National Unity released a video statement from Transport Minister Mohammed al-Shuhubi regarding the operation.

Shuhubi explained that a crisis unit had been formed under the direction of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah to monitor the abandoned tanker drifting in the Mediterranean Sea.

He added that Libyan tugboats successfully towed the vessel out of Libyan territorial waters into international waters and that the National Oil Corporation would manage the unloading procedure.

Shuhubi further noted that Libya had coordinated with Russia through its Foreign Ministry and was also cooperating with authorities in Malta and Italy to address the situation.
